If location is king in buying property then it is little wonder that a cliff-top beach house sitting above a popular surf beach in the ‘Sorrento of the South Coast’ is attracting so much attention.

The three-bedroom two-bathroom home at 47 Tallawang Avenue, Malua Bay, only recently hit the market but listing agent, John Haslem of Elders Real Estate Batemans Bay, told Region Media he has been swamped with interest.

“It’s the best interest I’ve had in a house for the last two years,” said Mr Haslem.

Located only about 15 minutes’ drive from Batemans Bay and a little over two hours from Canberra, the beach house benefits from amazing views and it’s easy access to the popular patrolled surf beach.

“I’ve been marketing cliff-top and waterfront houses for 18 years and the view from this house is the best I’ve ever seen. It’s spectacular,” said Mr Haslem.

“You can see the whole beach and look down the coast to the lighthouse at Malua Bay.”

Mr Haslem said that potential buyers can walk down a cliff edge path to the beach – with an access path the whole way.

He describes Malua Bay as “the Whale Beach or Sorrento of the South Coast” and said the home is located close to village shops, cafés, boat ramps, a bowling club, and other facilities.

The “neat and tidy” house has two bedrooms upstairs and a big living area with great views, while the downstairs area includes a big room with bunk beds and a large storage room.

The home will be auctioned on Sunday 27 January at 12:30 pm and Mr Haslem said he is hoping to sell it for around $1.2 million.

To date, there has been a lot of interest in the property, mainly from Canberrans but also from Sydneysiders and people living in the Blue Mountains.

Mr Haslem said the current owners use it as a holiday house and also as an air B’n’B.

He said that potential buyers tend to be interested in buying it as a holiday house or, in some cases, want to buy it now with the aim of redeveloping it as a retirement home in 10 years’ time.
