A learner driver, who had already had his licence disqualified until September, was allegedly caught travelling at 199km/h southbound on the Hume Highway at Goulburn.

The man was arrested after officers pulled over the black Audi hatchback just before 6pm on Saturday night. He was charged with speeding in a dangerous manner, exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h and driving while disqualified.

Southern Region Traffic Tactician Inspector Greg Lynch said police will continue to target those who put others at risk on our roads.

“Reaching these speeds is unacceptable at any time, and adding in inclement weather and other passengers on board makes this kind of behaviour a recipe for disaster,” Inspector Lynch said.

“We will continue to enforce the road rules and those who choose to ignore them will face the full brunt of the law.”

He was refused bail and will face Goulburn Local Court today.
