A man is accused of leading police on a car chase in northern Canberra after they spotted him driving at nearly 160 km/h.
ACT Policing said officers were conducting speed enforcement operations on Gungahlin Drive in Franklin at about 11 am on Monday (26 February) when they allegedly saw a Holden Commodore ute being driven at 157 km/h in an 80 km/h zone.
The ute allegedly weaved in and out of traffic while police tried to catch up to it.
However, shortly afterwards, its driver stalled the car and the officers were able to arrest him.
The alleged driver, a 31-year-old man from Gungahlin, was charged with furious driving, speeding, failing to stop for police and driving while disqualified.
Police seized the Commodore under road transport legislation.
A police spokesperson said if witnesses have dash-cam footage of the Commodore ute driving in the Gungahlin area shortly before 11 am, they are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or via the Crime Stoppers ACT website. Quote 7684052.
