… who chooses a helicopter as his preferred mode of transport.

So he’s a rich hippy with a whirlybird and no sense of hypocrisy?

Gold Creek is also ok for family day out – teen girls can shop and the boys go into the bird aviary and the lizard display. Adults can sit in a cafe or the George Harcourt and relax. Cockington Green is out there too, although it is more for oldies and little kids.

– Discounts for most of those are in the Entertainment book too.

Last chance this weekend!
WILD PLACES: Photographs by Richard Green
09:00 – 17:00
Until Sunday, November 16, 2008
Visitor Centre, and 4th floor
National Library of Australia

Richard Green is a photographer who lives in Sydney. Retiring in 1987 from a career developing high tech conventions he now pursues his passion for landscape photography and for helicopters. He and his wife spend weeks at a time using their helicopter to access and then photograph remarkable remote areas of Australia. A benefit provided by the helicopter is that most of his images are of wild places never before photographed.

Green’s works are large colourful panoramic landscapes – usually over 2 metres in length. He merges multiple high resolution digital images to create each large, detailed and compelling photograph. Green is an active conservationist and lover of the bush and is concerned by the politics of commercialisation and the devastating effects of climate change.

Anyone have any ideas how to keep four boys under the age of ten, and two tween girls (all interstate family, I have no children) entertained in Canberra for the weekend?

Otherwise we can just set the girls loose on Manuka with their mothers, and send the boys to the War Memorial.

Questacon will keep everyone busy for half a day. I have taken my interstate visitors of similar ages and they absolutely loved it.
