A 29-year-old Phillip man will face that ACT Magistrates Court today after police arrested him following the execution of a search warrant on his home early this morning (Monday, December 12).

Police will allege the man broke into a home in O’Connor between 12.30pm and 2.30pm on Sunday, December 11. Once inside the man has proceeded to an upstairs bedroom and filmed himself on camera, performing a lewd act. The man left the home, leaving the camera behind.

Within a short time police were able to identify the man and a search warrant was executed at his home. A number of items were seized as evidence.

At the conclusion of the search warrant, the man was arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House.

He will face court today charged with burglary and theft. Police will be opposing bail.

My mistake…. I thought it was an invitation to call you an idiot, because you make me wet. You know I like to poke gunmen. I have no passion for grammar.

I’ll readily accept that you have no passion for grammar.

The quantity and quality of your gunman inspired lubrication is something I have no personal evidence for either way, but as an owner of many guns I’m extremely happy to have stimulated you in that…errmm…area. I wish there was more of that going around.

But above all, I’m thrilled to see you continuing to exercise your absolutely sublime gift for the art of the non sequitur. You’ve really made my day.

That’s probably right, but we always used to say “oars on the gunnels” back in my rowing days.

Thanks HC. I’ve been involved in maritime matters for over two decades, and I’m fairly sure that the plural is an acceptable usage.

And fgzk, your politeness to me in this particular lighthearted discussion has reinforced my impression of you. Please continue your efforts in this area.

Its going to be a great watch in court if he disputes the allegations.

I would like to formally apologise for inadvertently turning this thread about a perfectly normal bit of lewd breaking and entering into a perverse discussion on nautical linguistics.

In the process of proclaiming you illitorate

Illitorate: A boat that is unable to sail on a lake, river, or near to the coast.

“LSWChp Gunnel, not gunnels. There only being only one top edge…… Idiot.”

… but there is one on each side. Much as you’d say ‘packed to the rafters’, and not ‘packed to the rafter’.

In the process of proclaiming you illitorate, I found that “gunnel” is in fact a variant of “gunwale”. I thank you for educating me.

You’re most welcome, though I fear I may have “educated” you in an American spelling, for which I apologise (or apologize or whatever) 🙂 I suspect I wrote it before my first cup of coffee, because I knew full well that there should have been a ‘w’ in there somewhere.

One can imagine that, for the purpose of the metaphor, the city of Canberra is represented by multiple ships, therefore allowing us to quite happily pack it to the gunwales. Or even gunnels.

Nautical folks have got a lot to answer for.

True, but they also gave us words that allow us to use multiple apostrophes! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m needed in the fo’c’sle.

And thankyou Pork Hunt for your research efforts. I was most happy with Spectra’s use of the word ‘gunnel’ even though I could only guess at its meaning. Gunnel makes a refreshing change from ‘in terms of’ which is the adult form of teens inserting ‘like’ as a word spacer.

Gunwale is pronounced gunnel.

Yeah, the word is actually pronounced in normal usage as “gunnels”, much like boatswain is pronounced “bosun” and Purser is pronounced “Pusser”. Anybody who announced “This boat is loaded to the gun-whales!” would be looked upon as an idiot by any sailor/mariner/seafarer/wet person.

This reminds me of that old urban legend about burglars and toothbrushes. Sounds like this guy didn’t hide the video well enough, though.

Wasn’t the idea to leave the video where it would be viewed by the victims, preferably a few days later.

He probably didn’t have enough time to speed up the footage and dub the benny hill chase music over the top.

Oh for the days of film, where any such surprises weren’t discovered until after processing.

+1.

However, I think this was a planned act, with the offender known to his victim(-s).But still-funny. 🙂

Oh police media, why do you tease it us? Was it a party trick involving a cucumber and a tube of deep heat? We need to know these things!
