A truck driver has been taken to hospital in a serious condition after a crash on the Monaro Highway north of Cooma.

It is believed a truck collided with a car on the highway 20 kilometres north of Cooma earlier on Friday morning (13 September).

The collision has caused long traffic delays on the Monaro Highway in both directions.

More to come.

The number of serious accidents on this stretch of the Monaro Highway continues to rise. What is needed ideally is a double lane separated road from Canberra to Cooma but that is not likely to happen. A better and more affordable plan would be for the ACT Government to upgrade and seal the unsealed section of the Bobeyan Road to meet the same work that is about to start on the NSW side: https://www.theland.com.au/story/5920799/barras-big-promises-under-the-big-trout/ .

This would give the region not only an alternative route to Adaminaby and Selwyn via the Monaro Highway through Cooma but it would give access to some spectacular mountains in the Namadji National Park. More sights for tourists to see and a direct route for locals to Adaminaby, Lake Eucumbene and Selwyn Ski Fields. It would also take a lot of pressure of the Monaro Highway.
