Dry cleaning is pissing me off

By ThatUniStudent - 9 November 2011 12

I have noticed recently that when I get my clothes back from the dry cleaner that they are clean, but have a faint wiff of piss.

Yep, someone is cleaning my clothes using ammonia, and the smell is persisting.

This has been an ongoing issue for a while now and I’m fed up with it.

I’m beginning to think my dry cleaner is taking the chemicals out of their photo developing equipment and using them for dry cleaning because the smell is a lot like photo fixer. In addition, I’m paying $11 for each pair of trousers for the privilege of having them smell like piss.

So, can anyone recommend a dry cleaner in Canberra that does not leave my pants smelling like I’ve either peed in them or spilt a beer down the front, and does anyone know of a dry cleaner who charges much less than $11 per item?

What’s Your opinion?

Hi ThatUniStudent,

After trying few dry cleaners I have finally found the one for domestic laundry and ironing services which is good and trust worthy.

They are in Philip and good mob. I am a happy camper now.

Got their details bookmarked http://www.canberraecoclean.com.au.

Try Top Cat in Kingston, they’re usually pretty good, and do the cleaning on site.

Never ever ever again will I take anything there.
Claim to do mending of clothes. When the clothes come back in worse condition than when you send them off to be fixed??? That is not mending. Also the Irish girl that works there & calls herself the manager should really reconsider her position with that business.

I’d be very wary of a dry cleaning shop with “cat” in the name – your pants may be returned to you smelling like cat piss.

If not, then demand that dry cleaner to show you CCTV footage, where they are handling your stuff. Perhaps, they have rogue staff member working there (who may be related to computer shop manager) 🙂

lol, well played sir.

+1 for Top Cat, they are not cheap but are very good and have the added benefit of having the automated machine where you can drop off and pick up 24/7

@ ThatUniStudent,

I suggest that you carefully investigate if dry cleaner is a relative of computer repair shop manager, where you were demanding to see CCTV footage (re: bag), in that case it will explain strange smell.

Dare I ask the bleeding obvious……

quote… “I have noticed recently that when I get my clothes back from the dry cleaner that they are clean, but have a faint wiff of piss”

but did they have a strong smell of piss when you took them in to be cleaned? bwhahahaha!

Try a different dry cleaner?

Well its not as easy as that, many are running through one company and just act as a drop off points.

I go to the one here on bunda street ( http://g.co/maps/qvew6 ). They’ve done a good job in the past (well they haven’t smelt of piss), i’m a pretty irregular customer though.

Try a different dry cleaner?

Ask your partner/friends to smell the clothes and tell you whether they smell ammonia too?

Dry cleaning is expensive! Film at 11.

Seinfeld Episode For Sure!!

have you talked to the dry cleaner about it??? Ask them. Take the clothes back and let them smell them.

that’d be a good first step.

or i could recommend one down at upper lanyon that cleans pants for $3 each, but depending on where you live, it might not be worth your while….
