Event: Will light rail increase greenhouse emissions?

By Leon Arundell - 16 March 2015 5

Is light rail emissions-free, as some experts claim, or does it cause emissions comparable to those of buses, as estimated by Shreya Dave of M.I.T.?

Is Capital Metro correct in saying that buses offer 350 times the greenhouse benefits of light rail?

Was Damian Haas correct in saying that my estimates suffered from confirmation bias?

Come to my free lecture in Civic at 5pm on Monday 16 March, and decide for yourself.

Places are limited. For more information and to book, click here.

When: Monday 16 March
Time: 5pm
Where: Ground Floor, Lena Karmel Lodge, Canberra City

What’s Your opinion?

Don’t forget to add on the carbon dioxide emitted by ratepayers earning the dollars to subsidise it.

I note on your Facebook site that your organisation claims that we are facing “a climate emergency”.
Is that the same as a “budget emergency”?

There is a difference, the “budget emergency” is short term thinking.

The “climate emergency” is long term thinking, which we are ignoring and will lead to the mother of all budget emergencies. If you think a USA housing crisis can wipe out trillions around the world, just imagine what the now seemingly inevitable land, water and agricultural crises will cost.

I’ll leave that question for this week’s Prime Minster.

To clarify, the estimates that Damian Haas described as subject to “confirmation bias” were the ones I published at

I just watched question time in the lower house but no questions about the budget emergency or a climate emergency were directed at today’s the prime minister.
