PG | 112 Mins | 2002 | DCP | UK | D: Gurinder Chadha
Eighteen-year-old British-Indian football fanatic Jesminder ‘Jess’ Bharma (Parminder Nagra) gets an opportunity to play for a local women’s team after a chance meeting with Jules (Keira Knightly). Both women struggle to reconcile their passion for the game with the expectations of their families in this heartfelt coming-of-age film.
Sporting talent, cultural norms and teenage desires clash in this endearing sporting comedy. A hit at the box office, Bend it Like Beckham explores traditional gender roles with upbeat humour and plenty of edge-of-the-seat football moments.
