From the wondrous minds of Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro), Howl’s Moving Castle is another masterfully inventive fantasy animation. Loosely based on the novel by Diana Wynne Jones, the film follows young Sophie, who is transformed into an elderly woman by a spiteful witch. In her quest to lift the curse, Sophie encounters the wizard Howl and is drawn into his magical castle on legs.
Against the backdrop of warring kingdoms, Sophie strives not only to free herself, but also to rescue Howl from the demon Calcifer. With themes of compassion, pacifism and loyalty, Howl’s Moving Castle is an enchanting, visually stunning and thought-provoking film for the whole family.
