Oh the thinks you can think when Dr Seuss’s best-loved characters collide and cavort in an unforgettable caper. With toe-tapping music, animated scenery, colourful costumes and a cast of talented local young performers to equal the best, there is something in this show for everyone from the very young to the very grandparent.
Now one of the most performed children’s musicals in the world, Seussical Jr is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Tony winners Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty have lovingly brought to life all our favourite Dr Seuss characters. Director Nina Stevenson says “Seussical Jr has all the loved characters that people know and recognise, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, Amazing Mayzie and a little girl with a big imagination.
The colourful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
