Canberra golfers and businesses are invited to tee off for the Canberra Hospital Foundation’s newest charity event – Can Golf Day.

The event is part of the foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year, Can Give Day.

Can Golf Day on 26 September promises to be a feature event of the annual Can Give Day thanks to a recent partnership with human resources and financial management company Workday.

The day will include golf, games, a fundraising dinner and auction.

Former health sector senior executive and foundation advocate Colm Mooney says the contributions from Workday are helping to take the fundraising event to the next level.

“We’re really excited to have them on board. We’re hoping their contributions will maximise the proceeds for a worthy cause,” Colm says.

“In the past, we have had similar events but never to this scale, and it’s thanks to the hard work of everyone involved that we are able to make it a much bigger and more enjoyable day for everyone.”

Canberra Hospital Foundation is inviting businesses from across the region to buy a ticket to take part in the day with all money raised supporting equipment, research, refurbishments and therapeutic programs to help patients, families and loved ones.

“You don’t have to be the best golfer in the world to participate; there’s plenty more to the day. The tickets are all-inclusive for a three-course meal including canapes and drinks, as well as plenty of raffles and talks from guest speakers,” Colm says.

“We’re going to have a few competitions running throughout the day, including the hole-in-one competition, longest drive and closest to the pin.

“It’s also a great networking opportunity to get the word out about your business or organisation.”

Colm recently started playing the game and says it is the ultimate stress relief.

“It is such a great game; anyone can play or participate in some way. It’s always going to be a good day out on the course regardless of whether you’re a beginner or seasoned professional,” he says.

The importance of the event is huge, Colm says.

“At the end of the day, it’s guaranteed we all need access to healthcare. Events like these ensure our facilities here in Canberra are running as well as possible.

“Whether it’s working in health care or dealing with it for personal reasons, everyone will associate with it in some way or another. So the funding we receive from events like these makes a really important difference to the community.”

Workday public sector sales director Paul Leahy says the company is excited to be taking part in the project.

“I worked in Canberra for more than 20 years, so when the chance to help the hospital continue their good work in the community came up, I jumped at it,” Paul says.

“As a company, we want to help as many people as we can with our partnerships, and contributing to the day just made sense for us.”

Canberra Hospital Foundation thanks the generosity of Cupra Garage Canberra and Peter Munday for donating the top prize for getting a hole-in-one on the day, a Cupra Hybrid car.

Tickets are $1500 for a team of four or $375 for an individual entry. All corporations are welcome to take part in the event.

Can Golf Day tees off at Gungahlin Lakes Golf and Community Club at 12 noon on 26 September. To find out more information on how to get involved, visit the Canberra Hospital Foundation.
