The United Firefighters Union has the surprising news that they’re disaffiliating from ACT Labor “in disgust”:
At a mass union meeting last night, ACT firefighters chose to vote with their feet, and walk away from the Labor Party over growing concerns about safety that have fallen on deaf ears.
The resolution states that “The UFU of A no longer has faith or trust in the ACT Government to support the interests of firefighters in the ACT. Therefore, we move to disaffiliate from the ALP forthwith.”
United Firefighters Union ACT Branch Secretary Dave Livingstone said “The ALP Government has failed firefighters in the ACT, through consistently cutting corners to save money and underfunding the fire service. The safety of firefighters is being compromised, and we wont stand for it. Firefighter safety is not now, and never will be negotiable.”
