Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher has launched a new book that will allow Canberrans and visitors to take home a memory of their visit to the National Arboretum and to in turn further develop the popular attraction.

The book, produced by the Friends of the National Arboretum, The Arboretum Book – The Forests of the National Arboretum presents the most up to date and accurate information about the Arboretum.

“The book provides detailed information about every forest planted in the Arboretum, including wonderful photographs and also chronicles the development of infrastructure and facilities, which will prove to be a valuable historical record,” the Chief Minister said.

“Proceeds from the sale of 5,000 of these books will raise money through the Friends to further develop the Arboretum. Book sales have the potential to raise tens of thousands of dollars for the Arboretum, and so the book will not only serve to enlighten, educate and entertain, but will also provide a solid financial return to the Arboretum.

“Canberrans have shown great affection for the National Arboretum since it opened early last year with hundreds of thousands of visitors passing through the gates.

“This book gives visitors something that they can buy and take home as a record of their visit as well as learn more about the attraction from the comfort of their homes.”

The book will be available from the National Arboretum Gift shop in the Village Centre from 25 June 2014, at a retail price of $35 including GST. The book may also be ordered online from the Friend’s website www.arboretumcanberra.org.au

“I would like to acknowledge the hard work of the Friends of the National Arboretum who have developed and produced this fantastic book which shows off all the plants, forests and attractions of the arboretum.

“The arboretum would not be as popular without the tireless work of the volunteers and I hope that this book is a success and will help them to continue to provide daily tours and information to visitors as well expert advice and research services.

“I encourage Canberrans to purchase this book and to contribute back to the Arboretum and help it to grow as the newest national attraction in the national capital,” the Chief Minister concluded.
