The ABC informs us that despite commentators bagging his performances all season the Brumbies George Smith has won his second John Eales medal.
The first was in 2002.
As much as I like George Smith, and have admired his performances over the years, he did have a pretty ordinary 2008.
Not intending to be a sourpuss, but George winning this award, and Peter Kimlin being in the Wallabies squad after only a handful of Super 14 games, makes me wonder about the credibility of the game, or at least whether standards are falling in Australian rugby…
While George Smith deserves all the awards he wins, and more, the “John Eales Medal” lost all credibility last year when Nathan Sharpe won it.
Let’s hope George has another 10 seasons in him!
