Grassy slope suggestions for ice blocking in Canberra?

I’d like to take some friends ice-blocking somewhere in Canberra.

I’m looking for a moderately steep, nice grassy hill.

The slopes on the corners of Parliament House would be ideal if they were a bit steeper… and not illegal.

Regatta Point has some potential, but unfortunately the footpath down the bottom makes it too risky.

Any ideas or suggested locations would be really appreciated!

I had to google ‘ice blocking’ to find out what it was …
I’m now thinking Launceston St in Lyons (down towards Hindmarsh Drive) .. worked for me as a kid with a billy-cart

Yeah, well grassed and smooth isn’t strictly necessary, but makes for a much easier and more fun ride, especially for smaller kids. We tried it on a slope out at Cotter (pre being closed for the damn upgrade) on summer BBQ season, and while still fun, ‘t’was hard to stay on the block, and when the block suddenly “stuck”, you would go flying, not on nice soft green watered lawn, but slightly dusty hard ground.

Just make sure you rotate spots and don’t f**k up the grass. Sure fire way to get your sport banned before it gets started.

Another vote for Regatta Point. We used to ice block on it for years, and we only had one near miss with the lake.

My kids have done Regatta with scouts. Just need parents along the path to stop any runaways.
And make your block big with rope well embedded, and have several dry towels to sit on.
Cardboard sheets would also be pretty good – what we used to use as kids. It used to be quite steep off the avenue near Rydges, but it seems the roads have changed since way back then.

The scouts often use Regatta point. It flattens out sufficiently before the footpath that there was no danger of anyone going into the drink
