Really enjoying the food at Ayutthaya Belconnen.

The restaurant changed hands about 6-12 months ago and the new owners have obviously worked on providing quality, authentic thai food, at a reasonable price.

It’s lovely to walk in and get a lovely Thai smile from the Thai staff there.

My favorite dishes (Pad Thai, Tom Yum or green chicken curry) all taste authentic, (although the chilli strength is a bit milder than what you would get in Bangkok, but not many of us can handle Bangkok strength Thai food) but you can always get extra chilli…

Anyway, Nice work Ayutthaya.

boom squared.

what canberra needs is a version of south melbourne’s fabulous ‘isthmus of kra’ – food as wonderful as the name…

My vote for best Thai in Tuggers is Chalie’s Sala Thai. Ex swanky hotel chef I believe. Fantastic food and reasonably priced. http://charliessalathai.com.au/

Thipps Thai in the Churches Centre in Belco does the best Pad Thai I’ve found in Canberra… their fish cakes are awesome too.

This is one of the few places that my (Thai) wife will eat Thai food. She really misses working in Belconnen and having this as her lunch local.

The only other place she will eat ‘asian’ food is the Mekong River restaurant in Dickson. It is a mix of Thai, Lao and Vietnamese. My favourite dish there is pad kee mao (or drunken noodles in engrish) and the wife loves the (Vietnamese) pho, especially the seafood version.

For those that haven’t had pad kee mao it is the Thai equivalent of a kebab, most often eaten after a night out on the turps, hence the name. It uses noodles similar to pad Thai but is spicier and maybe a little bit oilier. But yum yum. Their Issan/Lao sausage isn’t bad either, but best eaten as a side rather than entrée.

Am waiting for someone to say how good the Thai at Morks in Florey is. Of course whilst it is very nice food and is clearly very popular, it is western Thai inspired food rather than Thai food.

I can’t eat Thai anymore because I had the WORST food poisoning after eating a laksa from Chong Co in the Belco Mall in late october.

I had a bad experience at ayuttatha 10 years ago (very bland food) and have never gone back. Morks is OK.

Would be better if they could produce Isaan-style hot food. The Bangkok-boring stuff is insipid and uninspiring at most places in Bangkok, and even worse in Canberra.

Isaan Style.. Aroy Mak

Actually the will make papaya salad (Som tum) if you pre-book it.. i dont think many people here can handle Isaan style food.
