Hi, does anyone know what the timeframe is for the upgrade of the Gundaroo Drive and Horse Park Drive intersections? And exactly what are they trying to achieve? It seems that they will be widening a stretch of the Horse Park Drive at the intersection? Will that help with rush hour congestion on Horse Park drive?
Any plans on duplicating the Gundaroo Drive/William Slim Drive into Belconnen from Gungahlin?

Does the ACT government have a website where they have information on such projects?

Agree with Amaroovian – looks like a realignment to make it a 4 way intersection from the current T, and the addition of a turning lane.

If you think HPD is bad now, take a drive to the end of it and turn right at the new lights next to the servo and see how far back that space cleared out for the last stage of Bonner goes. Used to be at Canberra’s extreme North living in Amaroo. Not anymore!

Look forward to the completion of HPD (i.e. through to link up with HPD in Ngunnawal) and expect that to happen before duplication (in a decades time).

I think you will find they are re-aligning the intersection so that that road from Forde which currently stops about 15m short of the traffic lights can be connected up and actually used, and there can be more than one entry and exit from Forde. I haven’t seen plans, but I would suggest they are going to widen Horse Park at that intersection so that traffic turning right into Forde from Horse Park can have its own turning lane rather than sitting there blocking through traffic.

Nothing will help the rush hour congestion on Horse Park Dve – unless they duplicate it which will probably never happen. It is only going to get worse as more people move into Bonner and those new houses at the back of Harrison start going up. And with Defence taking up more office buildings out at the airport, and a lot of defence housing out in these newer suburbs, the number of people commuting via Horse Park Dve will only increase.
