Chief Minister Gallagher has announced the results of the Personality and Total Health (PATH) Through Life Project, which will surprise few:

Stressful life events, high job insecurity and strain, and financial hardship were among the most significant contributing factors to poor mental wellbeing, according to a new report launched today by the Chief Minister and Minister for Health, Katy Gallagher.

Well I never!

One does, however, have to wonder to what extent poor mental health contributes to stressful life events, high job insecurity and strain, and financial hardship.

Regardless these results mean the following themes will contribute to policy making:

    — Targeting vulnerable population groups and life stages;
    — Workplace mental health;
    — Integrated approaches to improving mental health and wellbeing;
    — Promoting positive mental health; and
    — Raising the association of mental health as a co-morbid factor with other other health risk factors.
