Injury curse for the Raiders

The injury toll from the Raiders’ loss to the Wests Tigers yesterday is severe, with both Jason Smith and Matt Adamson breaking a hand. These injuries make it a fait accompli for the Raiders not making the finals.

For Adamson this means the end of his rugby league playing career, while for Smith it is a season ending injury. Details are available at ABC Online.

Adamson has accepted a position as strength and conditioning coach with France-based English Super League side Les Catalans. Ian Hindmarsh also joins the French Super League club next year as a forward.

As we’ve already established, the Raiders don’t have near enough depth to suffer injuries at the moment. Just another facet that the powers at the Green Machine will have to keep an eye on if they are to be taken as a contender next year.

I would love to see the Raiders in the finals this year, although I’ve accepted, like Ralph, that it’s just not going to happen.

This is probably a good thing as without players like Adamson and Smith they stand slim chances against a few clubs playing truly excellent football at the moment.

It pleases me that the Roosters aren’t one of these clubs.
