Interesting sign placement in Charnwood

By Gerry-Built - 2 October 2012 28

charnwood

Having been intrigued by the fencing off of a large parcel of land adjacent Charnwood shops for some form of development, I looked for any indications.

Look where they’ve placed the DA notice; hardly accessible to read.

I took a photo of it – but it required me to stand on Lhotsky Street…

Hmmm…

Hope it isn’t a sign of things to come…

What’s Your opinion?

The fenced site is the start of work on the new Charnwood Fire and Ambulance Station. The Development Application for the project was approved on 5 July 2012, after the designated period of public notification.

The successul tenderer is now on site.

The new station provides a dedicated ambulance service for the West Belconnen area and new station facilities for ACT Fire and Rescue.

The new station is part of the ACT Labor Government’s plan to improve fire and ambulance cover across the ACT, with new stations also being planned for Calwell / Conder ( Fire and Rescue) and Aranda (combined Ambulance and Fire and Rescue). These 2 sites are currently the subject of rezoning proposals to the Territory Plan.

The proposed location of the combined emergency station at Aranda is dreadful. It’s too dangerous given it’s proximity to the school and the level of traffic. The community consultation has been dreadful, but I expect you’re wanting to push it through because of the current government’s addiction to selling off Belconnen Town Centre land (whether they be carparks, ambulance stations, etc).

As a resident of Dunlop I reckon moving part of Belconnen ambulance station to the burbs is very welcome indeed and sensible to co-locate with a new fire station. Being combined it will offer a better service and with just one (new) building to run and maintain should be cheaper where it needs to be. So how about a bit of credit.

Anyway today I voted and I placed you and your party well down the list. Why well for EXACTLY this kind of thing. No matter what you have to open your big traps and waffle negative crap and more importantly don’t offer any insight as to how you would do it better (or even differently). I mean to say you cannot tell me that replacing Belconnen police station was a waste, nor could I imagine you think the current Belconnen fire and amubulance stations are doing a good job. They are over 30 years old and need to be replaced and the services decentralised. If selling the land where they are now helps pay for them so beit. As for the location what exactly is the issue? Me thinks the real issue is you see a few cheap votes from the NIMBY’s. I mean to say you argue it is too close to a school, but take a look at the current Charnwood fire station, for about 30 years it has been next to a primary school and once had a high school across the road and not once that I recall as it caused an issue.

Anyway your post certainly doesn’t give me any confidence you could run the joint any better so I won’t be giving you a chance.

Next to the retirement homes built at Lanyon? That would seem a good spot.

Is that the one where the old stale politicians go after getting booted from the assembly?

It’s a notice that an otherwise lawful development will be called in.

Yeah the DA was approved back in July. Hence the sod turning a few weeks back.

I think the GB is suggesting that the fence is right on the edge of the gutter, necessitating standing on the road to read the sign.

It might be confusing since in the OP it mentions that taking a photo required standing in Lhotsky St. The photo in the post isn’t taken from Lhotsky St, it is taken from Charnwood Pl. Lhotsky St is the one the fence and the DA notice are along.

neanderthalsis 2:16 pm 02 Oct 12

If it is a DA notice, then it probably is a sign of things to come (barring objections and a lengthy review process that ultimately decides against the application only to be overruled by the relevant Minister using their call in powers because the developer donated to the party in the lead up to the election)…

I’m not quite sure of what your issue is here. Apart from the fact your photo doesn’t appear to show anything.
