The Canberra Times is reporting that Calvary John James is closing down its cancer clinic.

The rebates that we’re receiving from private health funds are not matching the expenses of running and staffing the unit. And I suppose, bearing in mind that the hospital was sold less than two years ago for being under financial pressure, we’ve got to make some commercial decisions.

An argument against relying on (and subsidising) private provision of health services?

it is just another step away from a private hospital that is so private, no-one is in there.

when is calvary going to extend the hospital’s services to include an emergency department?

somewhere for the elite to wait in a queue….

If the private health funds aren’t paying enough to run the unit, and there’s no possibility of extracting any more from them, surely it would be preferable to charge a gap fee to cover the costs rather than shut the whole damn thing down? This sounds like an excuse, and not the real reason.
