TAMS are sending their staff out to drive garbage trucks in an effort to make up for Friday’s missed collections:
The ACT Government is announcing the following arrangements to collect rubbish bins from some suburbs that were missed last Friday. Collections will take place in Campbell, Hackett, Hughes,
Watson and O’Malley from 3 pm this afternoon. Residents of these suburbs are advised to keep their rubbish bins out. The suburbs were selected by Cleanaway based on their advice on what could be achieved with the additional hours worked.
Negotiations have taken place for Cleanaway to have their drivers work longer hours today, while maintenance staff from Territory and Municipal Services will also undertake collections on Wednesday and Thursday to collect rubbish in Isaacs.
Negotiations are continuing with Cleanaway for their drivers to also work longer hours on Thursday. It is not possible for them to work longer hours on Wednesday due to it already being the longest collection day of the week (it involves collections in north Canberra, including Gungahlin).
Arrangements are as follows:
Tuesday: Campbell, Hackett, Hughes, Watson and O’Malley (collected by Cleanaway)
Wednesday: Isaacs commences (collected by TAMS’ staff)
Thursday: Isaacs continues. Other suburbs to be advised pending negotiation with Cleanaway
Friday: scheduled Friday collections resume
Saturday: recycling collections in those suburbs which were missed last FridayAll scheduled services for this week will be conducted.
The ACT Government will also be extending the operating hours of Mitchell and Mugga Resource Management Centres until 6 pm for the next three nights (Tuesday to Thursday) to allow people to dispose of the contents of their garbage bins free of charge. One free delivery will be available per vehicle. Normal charges apply for all other waste including additional household waste.
