The Kings Highway has been closed between Braidwood and Batemans Bay once again due to unsafe conditions.

Live Traffic NSW issued the closure notice at 4:30 pm on Sunday (15 December), saying the Highway is closed in both directions until further notice due to smoke in the area.

The Highway is closed east of Braidwood between Narranghi Road at Monga, down to the Kings Highway and Princes Highway intersection at Batemans Bay.

Motorists are being advised to travel between Nowra and Braidwood via the Princes Highway, Albatross Road, Braidwood Road or Nerriga Road.

The NSW Rural Fire Service is reporting that an out of control bushfire started near the Kings Highway at Northangera at about 4:15 pm, linked to the Currowan Fire, it is currently listed at the ‘Advice’ alert level.

“There has been an increase in fire activity this afternoon and it is likely that fire will impact the Kings Hwy in the area of Misty Mountain Road,” an RFS spokesperson says.

“This has required a re-closing of the Kings Highway. Please check LiveTraffic NSW for updates.”

Meanwhile, at the northern end of Currowan Fire activity has also increased.

Residents and motorists around Milton may notice active fire approaching the iconic Pigeon House Mountain.

“This fire continues to provide challenges but at this time there is no new threat to private properties.”
