Script submissions are invited for a season of short plays to be performed 13-17 December at the Ralph Wilson Theatre, Gorman House Arts Centre.

The Christmas-themed event is the fourth offering this year from Budding Theatre, a company founded by Kirsty Budding, 24, to stage new works with a focus on artistic collaboration, philanthropy, and accessibility for a range of audiences.

The script may be up to fifteen minutes in length and in any genre, but must begin with the stage direction:

(Character’s Name) enters carrying a Christmas present.

The previous show, ‘Nothing Is Sacred’, was held at Smith’s Alternative Bookshop in July and raised $2143.90 for Amnesty International. It was a collaboration of over thirty local artists and featured short comedic plays by Canberra playwrights Greg Gould, Arne Sjostedt, John Lombard, Angus Algie, Kate Roediger, and Raphael Kabo.

Ms. Budding is also a playwright, and is currently representing the A.C.T. at the National Studio, a week-long residency organized by the Australian Theatre for Young People at which 20 of Australia’s most exciting young playwrights are mentored by Australia’s leading playwrights.

Script submissions for Budding Theatre’s Christmas Show close 5th October. Further information is available on the company’s website: www.buddingtheatre.com
