ACT Policing has charged a man following an instance of assault and motor vehicle theft in Watson yesterday evening (Wednesday July 23).
About 6.10pm, a blue Kia Rio was stopped at the intersection of the Federal Highway and Flemington Road, behind a silver Toyota RAV4. A male exited the Toyota, approached the Kia and opened the driver’s side door. The male then assaulted the driver, striking her in the face and pulling her out of the vehicle. He then got in the vehicle and fled in a southerly direction along the Federal Highway. Several witnesses reported the incident to police.
A few hours later, police received several reports of a male, matching the description of the offender, behaving erratically in the area of Northbourne Avenue, Turner.
About 10.40pm, police located the male near Northbourne Avenue and conveyed him to the ACT Watch House.
The 19-year-old Belconnen man was later charged with assault, motor vehicle theft, property damage and reckless driving. He will face the ACT Magistrates Court later today.
