ACT police have charged a 39-year-old Banks man who barricaded himself inside a Red Hill unit sparking a 6 hour stand-off.

About 10am yesterday, police were alerted by a local that a man had barricaded himself inside a unit after an argument where he had allegedly assaulted the resident with a weapon.

The victim managed to flee the apartment and then alerted police.

Police attended the location and established a cordon around the Red Hill unit. They were able to negotiate a peaceful removal of the man who was taken into police custody.

The man is due to face the ACT Magistrates Court this morning on charges of forcible confinement, possession of an offensive weapon with intent and two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
