Man to face court after robbing Belconnen Mall store at knife-point

A man will face court today (31 October) charged with aggravated robbery after he allegedly robbed a Belconnen Mall store with a 15cm knife.

Around 10:30 am yesterday, the alleged offender entered a store at the Belconnen Mall armed with the knife before jumping the counter and threatening staff. He escaped with a sum of cash and two cartons of cigarettes.

The offender was arrested a short time later following a search of the local area and was transported to Belconnen Police Station.

Detective Acting Station Sergeant Shane Scott said the arrest was the result of swift and decisive police work of officers who were patrolling the area at the time.

“This arrest shows that if crimes are reported to police in a timely manner, along with accurate witness statements, offenders will be arrested and face the consequences of their actions,” Detective Acting Station Sergeant Scott said.
