A man and a woman have been rushed to The Canberra Hospital after being cut free from the wreckage of a car accident on Mirrabei Drive in Ngunnawal this afternoon.

The woman, who is believed to be in her 20s, was in a serious condition with multiple injuries when transported from the scene.

The man, in his 50s, was in a stable condition with possible abdominal injuries, according to an emergency services statement.

Both had been stabilised by intensive care paramedics and taken to hospital for further assessment and treatment.

Two fire crews, a commander, two ambulances and a duty manager on scene were on hand at the accident site as the two drivers were rescued from their respective vehicles using the jaws of life.
