A resident of an aged-care facility will face the ACT Magistrates Court today (22 July) following the assault and death of an 89-year-old woman in 2018.

Following an extensive police investigation that began in November 2018, a 60-year-old Melba man will face the charge of manslaughter.

An ACT Policing spokesperson said it will be alleged that the woman and man were both residents of a Campbell aged-care facility on 14 November 2018 when the man assaulted the woman, resulting in a number of injuries including a fractured hip joint.

ACT Ambulance Service paramedics treated the woman and transported her to hospital. She died in hospital on 4 December 2018.

The man was arrested on 24 March this year following an extensive police investigation.
