The Age has the sad news that there won’t be a local tearing up the track in Formula 1 racing next year:
Mark Webber will quit formula one at the end of the season to lead Porsche’s return to international sports car racing next year.
After weeks of speculation about Webber’s future, it was confirmed on Thursday evening that he has signed a multi-year deal with Porsche that will end his 11-year career in F1.
He decided against renewing for an eighth season in 2014 with the pacesetting Red Bull Racing Team after relations with his triple world champion teammate Sebastian Vettel sank to a new low earlier this year.
