Mekong River. $10 lunch review

Mekong River has sat relatively inoffensively on Woolley Street in Dickson for some time now, having taken over from an equally innocuous Vietnamese.

But they’ve got new management, a new gun chef, and appear to be making more of an effort.

This is evidenced in part by posters in the window advertising a range of $10 lunch takeaways.

The chicken Pad Thai was enormous, the noodles perfect, and the oil levels pleasingly low.

Personally I like a little more cowbell but some hot sauce sprinkled on top cured all that ailed it.

Worth another go.

(For more sub $10 lunches in Civic check the tag, if you’ve got recommendations let me know.)

Haven’t been since the management change, but before it used to be pretty good, certainly a hidden gem but not often busy. I think the reason though the Mekong River was more authentic than say the Noodle House next door, which dishes up more westernised versions so the Mekong River appealed to Asian customers and those that know what real Asian food is all about.

The irony of course is I believe the new owners of the Mekong River are the Noddle House, so will be interesting to see if the food becomes more westernised. If so I know my wife won’t be amused (she being Asian and all)

Had dinner there a few weeks ago, was very nice and the service was also very good.

Certainly looks the ticket … I could go one of those right now!
