Weetangera is a well-established, popular suburb in Belconnen, with the majority of homes built in the 1970s.

Mowle Place is named for Stewart Majoribanks Mowle (1822–1908) who worked at Yarralumla Station between 1838 and 1845, where in the midst of a drought in 1837-39 at the age of fifteen, he was left in charge of 25,000 sheep, and 50 or 60 men who were mostly convicts. He eventually moved to Sydney, where in 1883 he was appointed Usher of the Black Rod, an office he held until he retired in 1905.

The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home at 9 Mowle Place in Weetangera is a prime example of 1970s architecture, beautifully and tastefully updated and renovated for today’s interior design tastes, but with the retention of all the best features of a 1970s family home. And the home still presents an intriguing facade and street appeal, with established easy-care gardens and a double garage.

The home has the vaulted ceilings with exposed beams common in 1970s builds, but painted white which lifts the light levels and creates a feeling of spaciousness, removing the starkly contrasting sight of dark exposed beams. The open plan lounge/dining room, kitchen, and hallway have blackbutt timber flooring, and brick feature walls, bringing natural elements into the home which enhance the connection to the spectacular outdoor areas.

The kitchen has been updated in brilliant white, with modern, fitted Blanco appliances, electric cooking and plenty of storage, adjacent to the dining area. A separate rumpus/family room has been beautifully updated, with external access to the outdoors, and space for kids to play, or teenagers to retreat. Glass internal doors help light flow into all areas of the home, while clever use of painting and decoration ensures the house has a cosy feel.

The master bedroom suite is nothing short of spectacular. With a generous walk-in robe, with tasteful white glass doors, and a sizeable ensuite, the room is light, bright and a sanctuary with peaceful colours and white framed windows, a change from the cedar framed doors and windows throughout the rest of the home.

The other bedrooms are also spacious, and all have built-in robes. A separate study is the perfect place for a home office, or a homework room, and the family bathroom is spacious, and both the ensuite and the family bathroom are fully renovated.

The absolute highlight of the home (as though the features described above aren’t enough!) is the alfresco dining and heated inground swimming pool, which will keep the kids occupied all summer long.

The alfresco dining sits outside the kitchen/diner and looks over the sparkling pool, ensuring a delightful outdoor zone for entertaining friends and family.

Home.byHolly Sales Agent Cris O’Brien is charmed by the home, particularly the high ceilings and outdoor lifestyle options.

“For me, the magnificent open plan living room with high vaulted ceilings and the perfect combination of natural elements of exposed brick and timber-framed windows is a real highlight,” said Mrs O’Brien.

“The pool and the alfresco dining areas will provide families with the ideal outdoor lifestyle,” she said, “while both parents and kids can enjoy the heated pool, there is also the option of snacking on a charcuterie board and sipping a cool drink while watching the kids play in the pool.”

The home has ducted heating and reverse cycle cooling, and is situated close to local schools, Westfield and the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, and only minutes to auxiliary roads, public transport, nature reserves, and walking trails at Mount Painter, Black Mountain Reserve, and the Pinnacle Nature Reserve.

The home will go to auction at 5:30 pm on Thursday, 3 December.
