I noticed in dickson today that the Goodberrys store has some new signs up.
They appear to be changing their name to ‘Rubees or something very similar to that. There are new signs on the front of the building, but they are all covered in white plastic.

Interestingly the name change is not to ‘Jigsaw’ as was the case with some of the other Canberra stores.

Hi Guys,

I am amazed that our humble little Rubees store has made it to the land of cyber space. I feel honoured that people are talking about it and I hope that you are NEVER dissapointed in our store, the product or our service. I am one of the owners and am in the process of making changes to what was a great business. Our intention is to breath life back into Frozen Custard. We have opened our first interstate store, in Karingal VIC. If you are interested check out our web site at http://www.rubees.com.au and please provide me your personal feedback at feedback@rubees.com.au I would love to know what you loved, liked and hated about Goodberrys, so that we can make Rubees GREAT.

Really; who cares? Slow news day.

Oh, and Vic – Jigsaw is a reference to the fact that you can throw your own flavours together, much like a jigsaw puzzle.

With not much name recognition out there yet, people aren’t quite connecting the dots. The only reason people connected Goodberry’s with frozen custard was the fact that it’d been trading for 7 years. When Goodberry’s first opened in Erindale you can bet there were people saying “what kind of a name is Goodberry’s? What do they sell? Berries or something?”

After the collapse of Goodberry’s Australia, the Dickson store sold to new owners who are affiliated with a different franchise.

Sounds like a common sense decision – perhaps?

Who in their right name would change a pretty well known household brand name, for an ice creamery with a stupid name like ‘Jigsaw’.

‘Jigsaw’ for crying out loud? WTF does that name mean exactly? They sell jigsaws? They specialise in certain garage power tools? They help you find your adoptive parents?

I hope that whatever bright spark came up with the name change was duly sacked.
