Actew Water are celebrating their full or filling reservoirs:

The ACT is now storing more water than ever before.

Just a few days before ACT Chief Minister, Katy Gallagher launches the new Cotter Dam its storage levels are now more than 5 times the volume of the original dam. Across the catchment our dams are breaking records.

Mark Sullivan, ACTEW Water’s managing Director said:

“We’re delighted that our dams are now storing more water than ever before, ensuring we can deliver water security for future generations of Canberrans. Today that figure is an impressive 211 billion litres and rising.”

It’s not so much the dams breaking records as the heavens having opened up. When they start to dry, which they already have, we need to improve sourcing and regulate consumption.

Or do as we have done and build a bigger dam to take the excess in the good times…

Or allow the supplier to charge ridiculous amounts so nobody can afford to use so much of it. How else can they stop us wasting it?

What about improving the catchment area/collection? The fact is that with El Nina over the preceding five years we had the luck of the draw. Rainfall over the 2011/12 was particularly high.
