Simon Corbell has announced his plans to rejig Civic’s bus “layovers”* to accomodate ANU’s voracious growth:

“The existing City bus layover on Marcus Clarke Street will form part of the Australian National University Exchange development, so we require a new site to meet future bus layover needs,” Mr Corbell said.

“The ACT Government carried out a feasibility study to explore potential locations and recommended providing two smaller City bus layovers in the east and west of the City.

“The preferred location of the western City Bus Layover is currently an unsealed car park and open space on the corner of Barry Drive and Watson Street in Turner.”

The proposal seeks to provide bus parking for up to 21 vehicles, fencing and landscaping including water runoff management.

The development will require a variation to the Territory Plan. A planning report will be prepared to inform this process.

Mr Corbell said comments from the community on the proposal would be considered when finalising the planning report.

“There will also be the chance to provide further comment during the Territory Plan variation process,” he said.

The plans for the western City Bus layover will be on public display at Sargood Street at the O’Connor shops from 10.00am to 1.00pm this Saturday, 21 September 2013.

Should only cost about $5-8 million, and only result in another year and a half of roadworks on Barry Drive.

Honestly some a-holes in this city can’t see past the front of their own car in peak hour much less the needs of a city in decades to come.

Hmm, the shape of that layover look suspiciously like a scarab beetle.

And what is with the triangle in the bottom right corner?

Should only cost about $5-8 million, and only result in another year and a half of roadworks on Barry Drive.

Layovers are bus parking spots, where busses will park between routes. As opposed to a depot where busses are stored while not in use (a depot having fences and security).
