Territory and Municipal Services are letting us know that the official mowing season is getting under way:
Territory and Municipal Services’ annual mowing season activities will kick off today with crews beginning their major first cuttings along arterial roads across the ACT, Director, City Services, Territory and Municipal Services, Fleur Flanery said today.
“The 2011/12 mowing program was the largest on record with over 76,000 hectares of Canberra’s public open spaces mowed, an increase of 34 per cent compared to the previous year’s program,” Ms Flanery said.
“With the warm spring weather now here, it is time to commence this year’s program which will see the regular cutting of sportsgrounds, irrigated parks and non-irrigated areas such as neighbourhood parks and pedestrian parkland.
“The program utilises a base fleet of 89 mowers, comprising 47 internal and 42 contract mowers. Additional contract mowers are also employed throughout the mowing season where required.
