The National Capital Authority, via Senators Evans and Cameron have announced a design competition for the recently mooted National Workers Memorial:

A nation-wide design competition is underway for a memorial to honour Australians who have lost their lives at work.

Minister for Workplace Relations, Senator Chris Evans, and NSW Senator Doug Cameron today announced the start of the competition to find a suitable design for the National Workers’ Memorial in Canberra.

“The Memorial will be a reminder of the importance of workplace safety and the need to do everything possible to improve health and safety performance and prevent work related accidents, incidents and disease,” Senator Evans said.

“We are seeking innovative and thoughtful designs that commemorate the contribution and sacrifice of Australian workers in a sensitive and enduring way.”

So what should the memorial look like? My vote is for some dodgily constructed scaffolding.

Will we all join hands and sing Solidarity Forever at the unveiling?
