Queensland student Elvis Deschamps is set to become the first recipient of the the Manteena Scholarship for Leaders in Construction from the University of Canberra.
The scholarship, part of the Bachelor of Building and Construction Management degree, is now offered to one student in their first year of study. Awarded by local Canberra construction firm, Manteena, it aims to provide a student with financial support across the three years of their study course. Additionally, it includes some relevant paid work experience plus industry coaching/mentoring to build their confidence, competence and position within the industry for the future. Manteena values this scholarship at $15,000 across the three years.
Manteena Human Resources Manager, Sharon Costigan, was enthused by the quality of studentswho had applied for the scholarship, and explained the decision to select a single scholarship holder was a difficult one. ‘Elvis was 1 of 11 applicants, which was then shortlisted to 3. In the end we had a really tough time deciding between three very deserving young men for this year’s scholarship,’ said Sharon.
