Simon Corbell has announced the arrival of a new “storm response vehicle” and lighting tower for our friends in the SES.
- “The new ACTSES storm response vehicle is a new concept for the ACT. Based on a light truck chassis, it can seat up to seven volunteer members and features individual compartments for equipment storage, ladder racks, emergency warning lights/siren and a dual battery system.
“The body was designed by a team of volunteers from ACTSES to ensure it met the needs of the service.
“The acquisition of this vehicle will improve the ability of the ACTSES to respond to storm and flood incidents that may occur across the Territory.”

oh, i don’t know, one of the amphibious vans could. kombis spring to mind….
I still don’t get how it is called the Australian Capital Territory State Emergency Service. – as Thumper has already clarified, its because most people recognise the acronym S.E.S.
The same counter-argument can be used for the Queensland (State) SES, the Tasmania (Rogue-State and Gene Pool rejects dumping ground) SES, the Victoria (State) SES, and so on if you want to be picky.
Ah, come on. Simon’s alright…
I can think of much worse on both sides.
I’m glad they got their new storm response van thingy. I reckon they deserve as much support as we can give them.

Scootergal – you’re my hero! 🙂
It used to be ACTES.
But people recognise SES so ACT did the right thing by keeping the SES bit and slapping ACT in front of it.

Simple Simon looks like such a tool…sorry I don’t have anything else to add, just pointing out an observation
Not holding back there I see ms gal 😉
@Monster – no kind of van can operate in a flood. The SES has boats for working in a flood, which you will agree, sounds more appropriate when you think about it.
D’you reckon these would be able to operate in conditions where normal vans can’t, say, in a flood? Just looks like a normal workbus to me (but with seating for 7 etc).
And yeah, poor Mr Corbell isn’t the most photogenic guy, is he…
