Northbourne Avenue tree lopping

Territory And Municipal Services have published an FAQ on their plans to “maintain” and “tidy up” the trees along Northbourne starting right about now.

What is going to happen and why?

As one of the main gateways into Canberra, Northbourne Avenue provides many visitors with their first impressions of the region. It’s also a busy hub for local commuters. Each day, around 40,000 cars and average of one bus per minute along with cyclists and pedestrians, access Northbourne Avenue. That’s why it’s important we maintain the thoroughfare’s 4,500 trees.

The scope of the corridor’s tree maintenance activities will include pruning and shaping, the removal of dead and declining trees, as well as replanting. Trees growing in the urban environment need maintenance such as pruning to remove dead wood and to be shaped regularly to help strengthen their frame.
