Emergency Services just issued an ‘Orange’ level warning, that is, they expect an event that will threaten lives and property.

Ross Smith Cres in Scullin turned into a raging river on New Year’s Eve. The water covered the entire street, was about 50cm deep in the gutter, and created a one metre wave as it rushed over a street corner. I’ve never seen rain like it. The funniest thing was the idiots trying to drive through it.

Thanks Swaggie 🙂

Well, water cascading off the carport roof straight onto the vents at the front of my windscreen in Florey saw water three inches deep throughout my entire car. Great way to bring in the new year!

Sheer, Grifith/Narrabundah copped it bad mate. Hail the size of golf balls, hurricane force winds, Homes flooded out, roofs ripped off and many cars (especially Minis) swept away to the storm drains…… Nah only kiddin mate 🙂 Seriously the In Laws were down there and said it wasn’t too bad.

eep! does anyone know how Griffith/Narrabundah fared? I’m still up in the deep north, and more than a bit worried about my poor mini out in the backyard.

Conder wasn’t too bad… hailed for about 10 minutes and rained pretty heavily for about half an hour, but I wasn’t worried enough to move my car in the garage to protect it from the hail.

Sounds like it was pretty severe elsewhere!

Storm was so bad outside West Belco Leagues Club not a single car was moving at one point. We just sat near their car park deafened by hail on the roof. Quite surreal to be caught in it.

54mm in 10 mins (total 64mm plus hail) in Gilmore drains barely coped hail about 2 cm smashing against windows minor flooding in a roof cavity overall lucky saw the mud across the road near Isabella Drive. Friends who live 4+ klms in a direct line east got only 3 mm of rain.
A very awesome storm

I was watching the thunderstorms from my deck – turning bangers and shit talking with family, while they all huddled around our new brasier.

light rain only in hackett – and thunder

Here’s an irony. The Canberra Airport weather station received nothing, so Canberra’s official rainfall for Dec 31 will be zero. Here in West Belco, we received 53mm in 40 minutes with some small hail. The showers continued until 11pm. Our total was 58mm.

After getting all excited (I love storms) I don’t think we got even a drop here in Ainslie.

wow, calwell was just..words cant describe it, i’ve never seen it rain like it did (hey, i’m just 16..i havent seen much! :D) and wow..is it summer, or winter. mother nature, please do tell 🙂

i gotta admit, seeing all the shops flooded was pretty funny..and just weird!

Where are you, Deano?
Fadden

After whinging yesterday that we missed out on the rain, my god did we get it tonight. Tuggeranong looks like a scene from a movie.
We flooded, as did people around us.
Shit everywhere, hail mounded up inches thick. Our veggie patch at the community garden has been smashed to pieces.

Please tell me some of this went in the catchment.

I estimate (from buckets outside) that we got about 60mm in the hour or so.

in Holt.
That was fucking awesome. It just bashed on down.
And I was having a new years eve bbq.
AWesome.
The hallways of this dodgy developmen are not full of water.

We got the warning about an hour after the storm hit us.

Where are you, Deano?

Gungahlin missed out altogether this time.

We had 70mm of rain and 10cm of hail in just under an hour. The hail completely shredded our shade sails and smashed the vegetable garden.
