Ploy Thai. $10 lunch review

ploy thai

Walking down Lonsdale Street in Braddon today (as one does) I noticed the Ploy Thai restaurant and with the promise of an $8 deal how could I resist?

Curry puffs come extra at a dollar a throw and with a can of coke I had lunch and a drink for a mere $11.

I should have had two curry puffs. They were seriously good. Warm, fluffy, tasty and light.

The chicken and basil and jungle curry were decent if not great. On a good day Rice is better. But Rice on a bad day is awful. These guys have a feeling of consistency about them.

It was lovely sitting by the window watching Braddon go by.

The food was hot enough to get me breaking a sweat without detracting from the taste or being uncomfortable (cue several Pakistans worth of Droning from bores who live on hot sauce and broken glass about how it’s not spicy at all).

It’s not stellar. But it is a very nice cheap lunch. Worth a go if you’re in the neighbourhood.

(For more sub $10 lunches in Civic check the tag, if you’ve got recommendations let me know.)

I would like to add my appreciation for these reviews. In fact I found myself in Civic a few days ago at lunchtime and tried to search the site for a good place to get my lunch (I don’t go there often – I have to take advantage when I do). Unfortunately Telstra seems to boycott Civic – or any city center perhaps – and I couldn’t get proper 3G connection anywhere there!

So I ended up with some fair but overpriced Korean dumplings.

Description and lower half of the picture resembles gai pad krapow if you want to google the recipe. Fairly satisfying to make at home.

Really pleased you didn’t included a blow by blow update on the effects on your digestive system of this meal, a la the Smoque review.

Squeamish, me?

It’s normally Brit’s worth when it comes to bores who cry foul about their food not being hot enough.

It’s a reference to drone strikes, not the people of pakistan.

The f**k made you say that JB??

JohnBoy thanks for your lunch time reviews. I do keep note of them, and when I do have to go through the agony of draging myself into Civic , I do look out for them . Thanks.
