Police appeal for witnesses following attempted carjacking in Queanbeyan

Police in Queanbeyan are appealing for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed or have dashcam footage of an alleged carjacking in the main street of Queanbeyan early on Thursday morning. Photo: File.

Queanbeyan Police are looking for two males they believe are responsible for an attempted carjacking and assault in Queanbeyan yesterday morning.

At about 5:00 am yesterday (Thursday 17 October) a 33-year-old man was driving along Monaro Street, Queanbeyan when he was allegedly gestured to stop by an unknown man driving a small white hatchback.

The unknown man allegedly asked the other man for his keys before assaulting him with a metal bar. He then fled in his vehicle in an easterly direction.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen two males, aged between 25-30, both approximately 180 cm tall, with a slim build and fair complexion as they may be able to assist police with inquiries.

Queanbeyan Police are also appealing for anyone to come forward who may have witnessed or have dashcam footage of the incident.

The 33-year-old man was taken to Canberra Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the incident.
