ACT Policing has described the behaviour of a 34-year-old Kambah man as reckless following a drink driving incident at the Kambah Village car park last night (Wednesday, 4 June).
About 8.45pm, the Kambah man driving a grey VW Passat was observed driving in an erratic manner in the Kambah Village car park, before parking at the location.
The male driver got out of the vehicle and was seen staggering into Woolworths before getting back into his vehicle.
On exiting the Kambah Village car park the male driver hit a blue Ford Laser, jumped the curb and collided with a log bollard narrowly missing pedestrians at the location.
The vehicle was seen running a red light before driving off on Boddington Circuit, Kambah. A short time later the vehicle was again observed driving erratically in a car park where two males were standing having just finished work.
The vehicle narrowly missed the two males before mounting the curb and crashing into a nearby wall.
The 34-year-old man was taken into custody and was deemed unfit to provide a breath sample. He will be later charged with driving offences relating to alcohol.
Traffic Operations Station Sergeant Rod Anderson said the message does not seem to be getting through to some Canberra motorists and it is clear some drivers have a complete disregard for other road users.
“Despite targeting drink and drug-affected drivers during the month of May, some drivers continue to ignore our warnings regarding the dangers of drink driving,” Sergeant Anderson said.
“It’s appalling that the driver in this incident yesterday has shown such disregard for the law and was clearly willing to put not only his own life at risk but also those of other road users and pedestrians.”
“Our message could not be clearer – if you breach the road rules and place your own life or the lives of others in danger, we will catch you.”
