Police still seeking man involved in fatal Kingston Hotel fight

Police are still looking to speak with a man who was involved in a fight at the Kingston Hotel in which another man died on Sunday night (5 July).

ACT Policing can confirm that the deceased man was visiting Canberra from interstate, but has not released his name.

The 44-year-old man died at the scene after the fight. Police said no weapons or glass were involved.

Staff and paramedics from ACT Ambulance provided assistance but could not revive the man.

The incident occurred inside the hotel shortly after 9:00 pm on Sunday. About 20 to 30 people were present at the time. The man was pronounced dead at about 9:15 pm.

An ACT Policing spokesperson said detectives are continuing to review CCTV footage from the venue and police are appealing to witnesses to provide information to assist the investigation.

“As of Tuesday, 7 July, no arrests have been made and no one has been taken into custody in relation to the death of a 44-year-old man at a licensed premises in Griffith on Sunday, 5 July 2020,” the spokesperson said.

“ACT Policing is continuing to speak to a number of witnesses and encourage any other witnesses who have not yet come forward to do so.”

The ACT Policing spokesperson said CCTV footage of the incident would not be released at this time.
