1. Meat cleaver attacks on the streets of Narrabundah:

    ACT Policing has arrested a 16-year-old male youth following an alleged incident involving a knife in Narrabundah yesterday (Sunday, August 2).

    Around 9.30pm police attended the incident on reports of the male youth allegedly threatening four other juveniles with a meat cleaver.

    Police located the alleged offender in a near-by street. After a foot chase involving two officers the alleged offender was apprehended. During the arrest one the officers sustained a small laceration to the side of his head. The officer was treated by ACT Ambulance staff at Woden Police Station; he did not need to attend hospital.

    The male youth was charged with common assault and possessing an offensive weapon with intent. He will appear before the ACT Children’s Court this morning (August 3).

The kid’ll just say he didn’t know who he was attacking with the meat cleaver. Get Higgins. Mental impairment. Actus reas with no mens rea. Back on the street tomorrow to do it all again.

No wonder the cops are frustrated.

Shoot first, as questions later? that shouldn’t be the norm and an officer doing the right thing need to be commended for not shooting a kid. (Alhough I would say kudos to the police for handling the situation well)
Using deadly force is meant to be a last resort.

Given that this sort of thing has happened before, and not just once, Joshua’s comment is not so silly.
