Man allegedly armed with meat cleaver holds up Hungry Jacks

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an attempted robbery at a Belconnen fast food restaurant on Saturday, 31 December 2022.

About 10:40 pm, a man allegedly armed with a meat cleaver entered the Hungry Jacks restaurant on Emu Bank and demanded money.

It is alleged he pushed past customers and used the cleaver to make cutting gestures at them and staff.

A short time later, he fled the scene on foot empty handed. No one was injured during the incident.

The man was subsequently arrested about 10:30 pm on Sunday, 1 January 2023, and faced court today (Monday, 2 January 2023).

Police have already spoken to a number of witnesses, however they would still like to speak to anyone else who witnessed the incident who has not yet spoken to police.
