you just reminded me, granny, of a fave otupouring of unsuspected alliteration – in a deli in sydeny some years ago (too many!) i, with my friend, surveyed their wares, convened and decided, and so i asked for, “two pork pies and two pieces of pecan pie, please.” entirely without pre-thinking – the whole shop shushed for a moment before giggling!

While not in Canberra, and not exactly close enough to nick down to your local for a pint- Grazing at Gundaroo has Zierholz German Ale, Pale Ale & Amber Ale all available on tap (and occasionally they have the wheat beer too). Big ups to them for supporting the mighty Zierholz.

At one point i think ‘A Bite To Eat’ in Chifley also stocked 2 different Zierholz beers, however they may have gone back to just the German Ale.

No idea what you’re talking about. Obviously not a local, but happy to tak on your concerns. Firstly, like any establishment, gotta have patience with new staff (not an excuse, but a reality – I’ve seen plenty of places where the new staff aren’t 100% sure of what they’re doing). Secondly, they don’t have any beer duplicated on another tap – if asking for beer from a different tap, how would that work? Coopers instead of Carlton? Light instead of full strength? Thirdly, beer in general is flatter if served in cold, clean glasses; as I’ve mentioned before, Headmaster increases bubbles but makes it go flatter ealier.

Pork Belly is a cafe in Parkes near Old Parliament House that has the gall to charge $15/bottle corkage…and their winelist markups would be enough to put you off the grog
