A prime parcel of land with a modest two-storey house will go to auction in Forrest later today, giving potential buyers the opportunity to buy into the prestigious leafy suburb and build their dream home among some of Canberra’s finest residences.

Known affectionately by locals over the years as the ‘Doll House’ and then the ‘Ken House’, the attractive home sits on a large 2,476 square metre rectangular parcel land with a land value of $2,105,000.

With a price guide of $3 million plus, the property at 22 Tennyson Crescent will be auctioned on site at 3 pm today (December 9) and has “unlimited potential” according to listing agent James Carter of Luton Properties.

“It’s one of the last underdeveloped blocks in Forrest on one of the best streets in Forrest,” Mr Carter said.

“People can build their dream home on it and be in the centre of Canberra near the Parliamentary Triangle.”

The inner-south property is also close to Canberra’s elite schools, Manuka Village, Red Hill nature reserve and Canberra City, with two embassies located in the same street.

Mr Carter said the property provides a “once in a lifetime opportunity” for the buyer to create a substantial property with the knowledge that their property purchase is secure because it is underpinned by the high value of the land.

“This sunny 2,476 square metre rectangular parcel of prime land features minimal plantings, therefore allowing optimum space to design, create and build a spectacular state-of-the-art residence utilising your flair and imagination,” Mr Carter said.

While this would involve knocking down the current two-storey home, the present house already provides a very stylish residence which has been extensively renovated in recent years.

Built in 1952, the enchanting home was originally painted in heritage pink and knick-named the ‘Doll House’ by passers-by.

A change of owners and a new colour scheme saw it become known as the ‘Ken House’ and undergo substantial renovations with four bedrooms converted into one giant master suite.

The updated two-bedroom two-bathroom home now also features a new kitchen, polished timber floors, a sunroom with parquetry flooring, a large timber deck, a fireplace, updated bathrooms and a detached single garage and carport.
